Police arrest six drug peddlers in south Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir police arrested six drug peddlers and recovered heroin, cannabis and poppy straw in south Kashmir district of Pulwama, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

He said on a tip off a police party arrested two drug peddlers in Awantipora in Pulwama district. Cannabis has been recovered from their possession, he said adding a case FIR has been registered and investigation taken up.

He said four drug peddlers were arrested in two separate operations in Qaimoh in Kulgam district.He said 12 Kgs of Poppy Straw and five grams of Heroin like substances recovered.

FIR Nos. 11 & 12/2021 U/S 8/15, 8/20 NDPS Act stands registered and investigation is in progress.

Meanwhile, District Police Srinagar has initiated a drive and sensitization campaign in view of the growing menace of drug abuse and addiction especially among youth, police spokesman said.

SDPO Kothibagh Ms Farhat Nishat, SDPO Nehrupark Shri Sachit Sharma along with concerned territorial officers visited some prominent places like S P Higher Secondary School M A Road Srinagar, Biscoe School, Taxi Stands, Turf Ground TRC, Shalimar Market, Nehrupark Market of Srinagar and distributed the stickers among public and spread the awareness on Monday.

SDPO Kothibagh while interacting with the students at SP Higher Secondary School MA Road, asked them to come forward to eradicate the menace of drug abuse from your society and have been asked to contact on the given help line phone numbers for any assistance and to come forward for any information of drug peddlers.During campaign, SDPO Nehrupark asked the general public kindly assist Police in nabbing the drug peddlers so that the society is made drugs free and we must work together for a healthy Srinagar. have

All the stakeholders have also been taken into confidence and assured them of any kind of assistance in order to eradicate the menace of drug abuse and its consumption from Srinagar.
